Ready to try and start 2018 392 in a 68 Newport. I have no idea with the electronics. Do I have to get the original program tuned first since there are no more sensors? The BCM seems to control a bunch of things I no longer need. Can that be programmed out? I have all the CAN C wires and STAR connectors. Also have the ABS module which I was told I still need for the tranny to shift. Anyone have any input.
Thanks
What do you mean "no more sensors"?
Are you running a carb? If so what did you get to control ignition.
Post is a little vague, What transmission are you looking to use?
I
Thanks for getting back to me.
Have a complete dropout from a 2018 SRT 6.4 with 8 speed out of a Challenger. From what I've read online the stock Mopar PCM can be re flashed to run just the engine and transmission. Stock the PCM gets a bunch of inputs from everywhere in the car. Those inputs no longer exist since it's going into a 68 Newport. No wheel sensors, ABS, restraint inputs, gauge cluster, rear STAR connector, radio, etc. I am using HP Tuners and have their wire for the security gateway module but have zero experience tuning. My first problem is I can't get HP Tuners to get an initial read. Keeps saying "detect protocol failed". I was able to get a stock tune for a 2018 SRT Challenger online so I have something to work with. Once I opened the stock tune some things seemed pretty straight forward; like disabling the SKIM, in car button start, any starter relays, vehicle stability control, BCM, brake ESP over CAN. Other things are slightly less obvious like P/N over CAN, P/N WHC over CAN, CC over CAN, WCM equipped, ORC equipped. Just to name a few things.
Spoke to someone at Sound German Automotive about shifting the transmission. Minimum inputs are brake position sensor (have that) throttle position and RPM inputs. Never messed with the engine harness so they are there. Have the wiring diagrams so I was able to connect what I believe to be the necessary CAN wires to the security gateway module.
Not sure if the PCM will accept a tune if I can't read what is on the PCM now. But, if I can get a tune into the PCM that removes all the unnecessary things I may be able to get the engine to run. Really don't want to mess up the engine by disabling something necessary so just looking for some guidance. Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks
