I'm upgrading my 89 Dakota shelby. I have already put in a2007 charger complete independent rear suspension. Updated the front brakes to 14 in with 18 in rims. Its time to replace the 280k mile 318. ( very difficult to get the proper ecm).
I have purchased a 2008 5.7 truck motor w/engine only harness, a seperate truck ecm , also 2008. I was going to use the current transmission (42rh) which I rebuilt . After pricing out the belcrank setup for my current transmission, it's not much more expensive to opt for the 545 transmission.
I will have the ecm upgrade. I have ordered the front mounts
? 1 o2 sensors or not
?2. What would I need to make my own harness (I have good skills and plenty of time )
Any suggestions. Jerry
Oxygen sensors are a must as they give necessary information to the ECM to adjust fuel trims etc. You can use either transmission, the 545 will also give you better fuel mileage with the 5th gear overdrive
I think getting a complete harness of the appropriate year from a pick n pull would be cheapest and easiest. I’m getting ready to do a Shelby too.
